Labour Ministry launches `Skills Connect’ App

The Ministry of Labour, through its Central Recruitment and Manpower Agency, yesterday launched its Skills Connect App.

Present at the launch were Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour; Chief Labour Officer,  Dhaneshwar Deonarine; Chief Recruitment and Manpower Officer,  Yolanda Grant; and other officials.

A release from the Ministry of Labour said that the user-friendly Skill Connect App is designed to connect job seekers with employment opportunities while allowing service providers to advertise their skills and businesses.

Deonarine stated that this Skill Connect App is a boost to the online job bank.

“This application is not a replacement for our online job bank, but rather it is designed to complement our online job bank. The goal of this application skill connect is to create an accessible platform where workers, can connect collaborate, build trusted relationships, regardless of their location in Guyana.” He said that the app is specially designed for “blue-collar workers, whether unskilled, semiskilled, or skilled,” for easy access to job opportunities and marketing.

Hamilton explained the impact of the Skill Connect App: “It’s another initiative by the government to get people closer to jobs and jobs closer to the people. While the job bank dealt with potential employees and companies’ skills, the connect is wider, whereby you can have one-on-one engagement.”

Additionally, free Skill Connect App also has a translator that caters to Spanish and can be used on any smart device and allows feedback from users.

The Ministry of Labour encouraged all job seekers, skilled workers, and employers to download Skills Connect App and take advantage of this platform.

The event was held at the Ministry of Labour boardroom.
