The Hindu and non-Hindu community in Region Two celebrated Holi, or Phagwah, yesterday, bringing with it the spirit of unity and festivity to the Essequibo Coast.

The observance began as early as 5 a.m., with devotees gathering at the site where the Holika Dahan was burned the night before. In keeping with tradition, members of various mandirs smeared each other with the sacred ashes, which symbolized the triumph of good over evil.
