The government said that plans to provide potable water to all communities throughout the country are well advanced and yesterday assured citizens that when the 90% of water treatment plants are completed by the end of this year, they will no longer need to buy bottled water.
“Taste the water, drink. It is safe and you don’t have to buy bottled water because this is as good,” President Irfaan Ali said as officials and residents sampled water from the Wales well and water treatment plant, West Bank Demerara that was commissioned yesterday.
“The story of development is before you. Today, in a tasteless way, you will taste it because water has no taste. By the end of this year, 90% of the population will taste the tasteless nature of treated water throughout this country,” the President said during the feature address at the Wales plant commissioning.
Ali had Minister of Housing and Water Colin Croal, representatives from the company that built the plant – Hi Pro Ecologicos, executing contractor S Jagmohan Construction & General Supplies Inc and residents of areas it will serve, among others, sampling water from a tap the plant flows to. The President, who is currently fasting because of Ramadan, could not sample the water.
