The body of Narendra Mark Persaud, a 20-year-old Guyanese who disappeared on Monday after he jumped overboard to escape an attack by bees, was discovered on Tuesday morning in the Takutu River, in Bonfim, Brazil, located at the Guyana/Brazil border.
This is according to Brazilian news site, Folha Boa Vista (Folha BV), which reported that the incident occurred around 12.45 hours on Monday, March 17, near Porto São Paulo, Brazil which is located in the rural area of the municipality. According to Folha BV, the incident was attended by officers from the 5th Independent Border Military Police. It was also reported that the fire department divers who began their search on Monday found Persaud’s body the following morning.
Folha BV had earlier reported that Persaud was in a small boat with his wife, the couple’s 12-year-old son, and a friend. The group was fishing in a place known as Pedral when they were attacked by a swarm of bees and a bid to escape, Persaud jumped into the river. He did not know how to swim and being unable to overcome the current, sank underwater. According to the report, other occupants of the boat were also attacked by the insects, but remained on board.
