French authorities requested information from Guyana about the vessel that was recently busted with over six tonnes of cocaine and the high, swift and effective levels of cooperation between the two sides has been hailed by Paris.
“We are very happy with the high level of coordination and cooperation,” French Ambassador to Guyana and Suriname Nicolas de Lacoste told Stabroek News in an exclusive interview yesterday during an official visit to this country.
“There was a boat, it had the Guyanese flag and we were not sure [if it was from Guyana]. We notified the Guyanese authorities and very quickly we got the information we needed. The provision for us to intervene was there and we did and we found out there was more than six tonnes of cocaine onboard. This shows the very high levels of exchange and confidence and efficiency of our operations,” he added.
