Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, yesterday met with the soldiers of the Force’s athletic team to commend their outstanding performances at the Ariza National Championship, held on March 15–16, 2025, at Grenada’s Kirani James National Stadium, a release from the Guyana Defence Force.
The team’s success was anchored by standout performances across disciplines. Senior Petty Officer Leslain Baird secured 2nd place in the javelin with a powerful throw of 70.14 meters, while Sergeant Akeem Stewart blazed to 1st place in the Men’s Invitational 100M with a lightning-fast 10.59 seconds. Private Nicholas Daw dominated the track with double victories in the 400M (49.37 seconds) and 800M (1:54.18), showcasing his versatility. Meanwhile, Private Savanah Adams made history as the sole female GDF competitor, sprinting to 2nd place in the Women’s 100M with a time of 12.07 seconds earning her a special commendation from Brigadier Khan.
