-Chief Education Officer apologises
The Ministry of Education yesterday announced the withdrawal of a primary school textbook over contentious references to the Region One community of Chinese Landing which has been in a controversy with the government for a number of years over mining.
The animus between Chinese Landing and the government was seen as the impetus behind the politically tinged references in the textbook and this was condemned by the village.
Chinese Landing Toshao Nikita Miller yesterday called on the Ministry of Education to issue a written apology to former Toshao Orin Fernandes and to make public the promised changes to the controversial content of the Grade 3 Social Studies textbook, ‘Guyanese in the World’, which was published by the Ministry.
