-quick response by GPF saves house
The quick response of the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) on Wednesday morning saved a house on Garnett Street, Kitty, Georgetown, after a fire erupted as a result of a defective gas regulator.
The GFS responded to the call at Lot 162 Garnett Street, Kitty and arrived on location at 11.40 am with some 11 firefighters and two water tenders.

The property is owned by Camille Daly.
Initial investigations and assessment by the GFS revealed that the fire started as a result of a defective gas regulator head, which caused gas vapour to escape from the cylinder and come into contact with the naked flame from the lit gas stove. The fire then spread to nearby combustible materials. However, the contents of the house suffered minimal damage
Stabroek News understands that the quick response of the firefighters enabled them to contain the fire in the kitchen where it erupted and the house was saved.
