Dear Editor,
Mark Archer writes a letter (Stabroek News, 21/03/25) categorically stating that Venezuela’s behaviour “to date, clearly shows that this regime is preparing to take the Essequibo by force”. He then, again, categorically claims, that is, he knows for certain, that “once attacked by Venezuela… the Americans will not be coming…in the event of Venezuelan aggression; it will not happen”.
Clearly, Mr. Archer has privileged access to inside security information upon which he can make these statements without contradiction. If he does, he has an absolute responsibility to share the evidence to support what he categorically states.
If, as I suspect, Archer has no such evidence and is totally unable to offer any proof whatsoever of what he publicly claims in his letter to be evidential, then he should keep quiet rather than make these irresponsible statements which, in fact, if believed by his readers, are intended to drive fear and if believed by the Venezuelans, do nothing but encourage them to invade us.
Yours sincerely,
Kit Nascimento
