The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) will host its highly anticipated Carifta Games Trials today and tomorrow, as the country ramps up preparations for the upcoming Carifta Games in Trinidad and Tobago from April 19-21. This meet is particularly significant as it marks the first competition under the newly elected executive led by President Sheryl Hermonstine. Ambitiously, the AAG is looking for its largest ever contingent of athletes, eyeing a team of 30-strong.

Over the two-day event, athletes will compete at the National Track and Field Centre in Leonora, striving to meet the Carifta Games qualifying standards. Events will be contested across track and field disciplines, including sprints, middle-distance races, throws, and jumps. The trials will feature age group categories for Under-17 and Under-20 athletes, with a few events open to senior competitors.
