Seven people are homeless after an electrical fire destroyed two houses at Rose Hall Berbice yesterday morning.

This is according to Berbice Divisional Fire Officer Clive McDonald, who told Stabroek News last evening that the Guyana Fire Service, Georgetown Headquarters received a call at about 11:25 hrs about a building on fire. The operations room relayed the call to the New Amsterdam and Rose Hall fire stations, and the radio systems also transmitted the message.

Firefighters from the Rose Hall Fire Station responded and found two buildings fully engulfed in flames. Both of the houses were wooden and concrete.

McDonald explained that heavy winds caused the fire to spread quickly. He said that one elderly person was rescued from the fire.
