Yesterday, customs officers of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and CANU officers, acting on information received, searched one incoming barrel from the United States of America (USA), which led to the discovery of several transparent parcels containing a quantity of foreign cannabis.
The interception was made at the Laparkan Cargo Shed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
The cannabis was taken to CANU’s Headquarters and weighed 2.75 kilograms.
“This seizure is part of ongoing collaborative efforts by GRA Customs and CANU officers to prevent the entry of illicit drugs concealed in cargo and other shipments. The agencies remain committed to strengthening security measures and ensuring that Guyana’s borders remain protected against drug trafficking”, the release added.
