NA labourer gets 12 years for killing man

Forty-two-year-old Dexroy Ogleton yesterday appeared before Justice Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Berbice Assizes where he was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for the death of Jermaine Elias, called ‘Deportee’.

In computing the sentence, the judge started the sentencing ceiling at 18 years, before deducting one-third for the guilty plea to the lesser count of manslaughter. The accused subsequently received a sentence of 12 years with the order that prison officials make a further deduction for time spent as a remanded prisoner.
