Thirty-one-year-old Alvin Archer also known as ‘Teez’ appeared yesterday before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to face the charge of larceny.
Archer pled guilty with an explanation.
The charge alleged that on Friday, March 28, at South Road, Georgetown, while in the company of others, Archer stole $140,000 cash and a number of tools valued $10,000 belonging of Terrence Richmond.
Magistrate McGusty asked Archer to explain to her what occurred on the day of the incident. Archer stated that he was under the influence of alcohol and took the bag and gave it to one of his friends. He also expressed remorse for what he had done.
Archer went on to reveal that he was drinking Rude Boy at the time, and after taking the bag with the money inside, he passed it on to his friend who stashed it and they later split the money up between themselves.
The prosecutor told the court that the victim and the accused were not known to each other and the incident took place at a Super Bet shop where the victim had his bag placed next to him and after a few moments, noticed that it was no longer beside him. The victim then reported the missing bag to the staff at Super Bet who checked the camera footage which clearly showed the accused picking up the victim’s bag.
The magistrate then asked Archer what he thought the court should do and he responded that he would pay back what he stole from the victim.
The prosecution asked for two weeks to locate the victim so that he can decide whether he wants to be compensated by Archer.
The matter was adjourned to April 15.
