The South Chargers bested the Northern Warriors by four wickets yesterday when the Essequibo Zone in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) National U-21 50-Over Knockout Championship continued.

Staged at the Pomona ground, Essequibo Coast, the Northern Warriors, after winning the toss, were bundled out for 116 in 23 overs. Fast bowler Bruce Vincent was the architect of the Warriors batting failure as he snared 4-38 from nine overs, while Saeed Baksh supported with 3-32. Ijtuhad Kadir tallied 2-13.

Captain and opener Rajindra Ramballi top scored with a gritty 24 runs while Shaaif Mohamed supported with 17. In reply, South Chargers raced to 117/6 in 25.5 overs. Shaieed Khan led the way with an aggressive 41 runs, which contained five boundaries and a maximum from 36 balls.

He was supported by Baksh, who displayed his all-round quality with 22 runs. Adding 18 was Uriah Stoll.

Shaazif Baksh was the pick of the bowlers with 3-24, while Govinda Tulsie tallied 2-20. The competition is slated to continue tomorrow with the final match in this zone. South Chargers will clash with the Bartica/East Bank Essequibo Combined team at the same venue.
