A Rosignol greens vendor is battling for his life at the Georgetown Public Hospital after bandits shot him five times around his neck and shoulder yesterday morning in Black Bush Polder (BBP).
Relatives said surgery was performed on Shizad Ally, 42, called `Fizul’ to remove the bullets and he was in a stable condition. According to reports, he was driving alone in a canter truck in a desolate area when he was attacked by gunmen.
He was rescued by a man who passed at the same time and was taken to the Mibicuri Hospital where he received treatment. Ally was then placed in an ambulance to be taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital, accompanied by two nurses. While on the way the ambulance broke down and a resident volunteered to transport him and the nurses in his car. He bled profusely all the way.
He received further treatment at the NA Hospital and was transferred in an ambulance to the GPH. Ally had to be given blood, oxygen and saline in the emergency unit of the hospital yesterday.
The man’s distraught wife, Jean, said her husband left home with the “first boat” to purchase greens from farmers in BBP. She called him about 6:45 am on his cellular phone and he told her he was driving into BBP and would call her when he got to his destination.
The woman said she received a call about 7:30 am from the farmers he was going to buy from saying that he was shot and robbed.
One of the man’s daughters lamented “Look how hard you gat to work for your money and they [bandits] just come easy and tek it away.” (Shabna Ullah)
