The Ministry of Health has partnered with the University of Guyana (UG) to host a week-long health and wellness fair targeting male students and lecturers, and open to the public.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Shamdeo Persaud said the exercise is part of observances for International Men’s Day which was observed on Tuesday, and focuses on men’s health as men tend to pay less attention to minor symptoms, often to their disadvantage.
According to a Government Informa-tion Agency report the services being offered at the general outpatient clinic include eye care, voluntary HIV counselling and testing, checking of Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, random blood sugar and cholesterol testing along with some types of vaccinations. Students will also be counselled on stress management.
Through the collaboration, the ministry is seeking new partners in securing the nation’s health.
Meanwhile, UGSS President Richard Rambarran said lecturers will be held from 4 pm daily on various health and wellness topics. A dental outreach has also been scheduled for next week at the Turkeyen campus.
