The locally-based athletes competing at the 2014 Commonwealth Games left Guyana’s shores yesterday en route for Glasgow, Scotland.
They journeyed overland to Suriname after which they were scheduled to fly to Amsterdam, Holland via KLM Airlines. The team was then scheduled to travel to London, England from Amsterdam then to Scotland.
At the July 23 to August 3 Games, the Golden Arrowhead will be represented in seven disciplines: athletics, boxing, cycling, rifle shooting, squash, swimming and table tennis.
Guyana’s entire delegation including US and UK based athletes are:
Cycling: Alanzo Greaves, Raynauth Jeffrey, Geron Williams, Scott Savory, Marlon Williams and Claire Fraser-Green with Dwayne Gibbs as Manager/Coach and Shaun Green (Coach).
Boxing: Theresa London, Eon Bancroft, Dennis Thomas and Imran Khan and/or Delon Charles with Terrence Poole as Manager/Coach.
Athletics: Adam Harris, Stephan James and Winston George with Kenrick Smith as Coach.
Table Tennis: Christopher Franklin, Paul David, Shemar Britton, Idi Lewis, Trenace Lowe, Chelsea Edghill, Nathalie Cummings, Jody-Ann Blake and Godfrey Munroe as Manager/Coach.
Swimming: Onika George and Niall Roberts (doubtful owing to injury) with Sean Baksh as Manager/Coach.
Squash: Alexander Arjoon, Sunil Seth and Nicolette Fernandes with Carl Ince as Manager/Coach.
Rifle Shooting: Mahendra Persaud, Lennox Braithwaite with Ransford Goodluck as Manager/Coach.
The Chef-de-Mission of the sojourn is Garfield Wiltshire.
