A splendid six-wicket haul from left-arm spinnner Gourav Ramesh allowed Albion to contain a dangerous Rose Hall Town Bakewell side to a manageable total and secure a two-wicket win in the Zone final of the Berbice Cricket Board 2019 Under-17 final at Hampshire yesterday.
In another encounter, Rose Hall Town B defeated Albion B by 65 runs at the Albion Sports Complex ground.
At Hampshire, Rose Hall Town Bakewell batted first and posted 121 in 30 overs while Albion reached 124-9 in 35.1 overs.
Richardo Ramdehol and Vikash Subramanie got Rose Hall Town off to a flyer but Ramesh got into the attack and struck in his first over, removing Subramanie for 13 (two boundaries) while Leon Cecil accounted for Jonathan Rampersaud leaving Rose Hall Town 44-2.
Ramesh got some purchase on the flat track and removed Ramdehol for 20 as well as top scorer Jaron Gopilall for 29 (three boundaries).
Cecil dismissed Jonathon Deviera and Lucas Arthur cheaply while Ramesh made light work of the lower order to end with 6-18. Cecil support with 3-27.
In the chase, Albion’s top order got them off to a blazing start with Riad Karim and Hemendra Gurdyal scoring 34 and 22 respectively.
Mavindra Gopilall pulled back the scoring with two quick wickets and Rampersaud tried valiantly by grabbing three wickets, leaving Albion needing 21 runs with three wickets in hand.
However, Tameshwar Mahadeo’s unbeaten 22, coupled with five dropped catches allowed Albion to take the title.
Rampersaud finished with 4-30 while Ramdehol and Gopilall took two wickets each.
In the clash of the B teams, Rose Hall Town B batted first and posted 150 with Jeremiah Felix hammering nine fours on his way to 72.
Christopher Deroop added 24. Dameion Cecil (3-21), Tameshwar Mangal (3-22) and Afraz Boodhoo (2-32) were the main wicket takers.
In reply, Angelino Ramdial took 5-14 as only Reyad Mohabir (15) and Getesh Samaroo (16) reached double figures as Albion crawled to 85 in 24.3 overs.
