A half century from West Indies Under-16 batsman, Mavindra Dindyal and a five wicket haul from Guyana Under-17 spinner, Niran Bissu propelled Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Select Under-17 to a 50-run thrashing of Queen’s College on Thursday at the Malteenoes Sports Club.
The match, which signified the return of Queen’s College into the GCA youth tournaments, the 50th birth anniversary of two former students of Guyana’s premier secondary institution and sponsors, as well as the bowl off of the GCA’s 2019 season, saw GCA U17 being sent in to bat and posting 128/8 in their 20 overs while restricting QC for 78 in 16.2 overs.
Shamar Yearwood opened with Dindyal but departed for just 10 after hitting one six with his stumps dismantled by Vickash Jaikaran in his first over.
Dindyal went on to smash six fours and one six during his half century with support coming from Ushardiva Balgobin with a composed 19. No other batsman reached double figures.
The batting line up that was selected based on performance in the last season of youth cricket was kept in check with Jaikaran finishing with 3-21 from his four overs while Navindra Persaud and Jaylon Aluri took one wicket each.
In reply, Persaud, who represented Guyana at the youth level partnered with Demerara Cricket Club’s Brandon Jaikaran to share a healthy opening stand but was soon broken with Zachary Jodah trapped Persaud leg before wicket for 10 and Jaikaran being undone for 14.
Eon Allen top scored with 15 but was accounted for by Bissu who finished with 6-4 from four overs.
