The Ministry of Citizenship is looking to partner with the Guyana Police Force to train ranks stationed in border locations on the registration of births, Minister Winston Felix has announced, noting that Eteringbang in Region Seven will be used as a pilot for the project’s implementation.
The minister disclosed this yesterday, during the meeting of the National Multi-Sectoral Coordinating Committee, a release from the Ministry of the Presidency said.
“There should be no child in Guyana, irrespective of their geographical location, who is not registered,” Felix said, also stating that since assuming office, government has been working toward achieving its goal of 100 percent registration of births.
Noting that that is important that issues such as application storage, training schedules and the sustainability of the venture be worked out, the minister related that he has already sent a letter to the Office of the Commissioner of Police, requesting the setup of a meeting with the General Register Office, to ensure that all systems are put in place for the training to begin.
It is expected that all administrative and other issues will be finalised within a month.
“What we are looking at is the fact that there should be sustainability. We would not want to train ranks and when they are moved from that location, there are issues. The absence of a rank trained in this area should not affect the system, so that is what must be looked at,” he said.
