Patrick Prashad defeated his compatriots and competitors to win the A-Class category at the DBS Suriname Open, which was staged at the Paramaribo Golf Club.
This was confirmed by a press release from the Guyana Golf Association.
Approximately 62 players from across the region competed in the event, which has become a staple on the regional golf calendar. However, the experienced Prashad defied the odds to prevail in the A-Class category with figures of Gross 79, HC 13, Net 66 (Overall Net 142).
During post-match remarks, Prashad said, “I’ve been visiting and playing with the Surinamese in excess of 20 years; the only time I missed was after Covid 19 and 2023, and I have never won anything. I represent Guyana and Lusignan Golf Club; the club has always represented Guyana, and we feel privileged to be invited here. Even year we are able to send a team to represent Guyana and Lusignan Golf Club. The Paramaribo Golf Club has produced a wonderful tournament, and I am grateful with the results.”
Meanwhile, Brian Hackett finished in second place in the B-Class division. He ended with figures of Gross 88, HC 18, Net 70 (Overall Net 136).
Other notable performances included Patanjilee Persaud, who recorded figures of Gross 86, HC 13, Net 73 (Overall Net 144) to finish fourth in the A-Class category, while Troy Cadogan tallied Gross 99, HC 25, Net 74 (Overall Net 149) to end in fourth position in the C-Class division. Carlos Adams also copped fourth place with figures of Gross 105, HC 22, Net 83 (Overall Net 152) in the Senior-Class segment.
