Alness roadside vendor robbed of `box hand’ by masked bandits

Two masked armed bandits robbed Basmattie Mangru known as Anna of a ‘box hand’, and the day’s sales on Tuesday while she was vending along the   Alness Village  Public Road.

It was while she was attending to a customer at around 7.50 pm that she heard the sound of three gunshots.

“I turned, I saw a masked man standing next to me. My bag was hanging, He took it, and was trying to rip off my apron.  But I loose the apron and I gave him. He had  pressed the gun to my side but did not fire it. They took over $70,000 and other change monies”, she said.

The widow recalled too that there were customers awaiting service and a car driver who was waiting to uplift his `box hand’. He pursued  the two youthful bandits but they escaped in the back streets.

The police responded to the scene and recovered a spent shell.

Mangru has  been selling for over thirty years  at the  Port Mourant and Rose Hall Market but commenced vending along the roadside after the Covid pandemic .
