For the family of 11-year-old Mark Harrypaul, the joy of Christmas has been overshadowed by his death in a bullying incident at the Strathspey Primary School last year and they are still seeking justice and closure.

On November 27, 2023,  a student from another school slammed a gate shut, striking Mark in the head, resulting in a fatal injury.

Sushmita Singh, the mother of Mark, in an interview with Stabroek News recounted what Christmas meant to the family before her son’s death. In a family where the spirit of Christmas reigned supreme, Mark embodied the holiday cheer. His love for church and fascination with giving made the festive season his favourite time of year. As the festive season approached, his mother said, Mark would immerse himself in church activities, finding solace and purpose in his faith. Just weeks before his passing, he took a significant step in his spiritual journey when he was baptized at the Kingdom of God Ministries. This event deepened his beliefs and inspired him to encourage his elder brother to follow suit. He eagerly shared his plans with his parents, promising to guide each of them through their own baptisms, one by one.
