‘One Guyana’ Basketball
Pacesetters and Panthers recorded contrasting divisional victories when the ‘One Guyana’ Basketball League resumed on Saturday evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue.
Pacesetters thrashed the East Coast All-Stars 80-45 to maintain their unbeaten streak. Jaleel Duke led Pacesetters with 25 points, while Tafawa Daly was the next best scorer with 15 points. Adding 10 points was Troy David.
For the loser, Sherlon Legall scored 21 points while Quasie Newton netted 10 points.
Pacesetters established their dominance from the first quarter as they secured a 16-9 advantage. This was increased in the second stanza, as they outscored the All-Stars 21-7 to enter the halftime interval in control at 37-16.
The All-Stars marginally improved their showing in the third quarter, as they were outshot 20-17 to trail 57-33 heading into the final period. Nonetheless, Pacesetters then sealed the result as they outplayed their foe 23-12.
On the other hand, the Panthers edged the Guardians 52-51. The trio of Jacob Lowe, Y. Israel, and Ian Klein tallied 16, 14, and 10 points, respectively, for the victor. For the loser, Trenton Woolford top scored with 14 points, while Nduko Horatio and Enoch Matthews recorded nine and eight points apiece.
Leading 11-10 at the end of the first period, the Panthers would increase their advantage in the second quarter, tallying 11 points while restricting their opponent to five points to enter the halftime interval in control at 22-15. However, Guardians reduced the deficit in the third period as they outscored Panthers 16-13 to trail 31-35 heading into the final period.
Guardians would once again out-hustle their opponent in the final quarter at 20-17 but fell short in securing the victory.
