The Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Ministry of Business and the Ministry of Communities yesterday hosted a farmers’ market at D’Urban Park as part of the activities to mark Guyana’s 51st independence anniversary.

Some Stabroek News bloggers, commenting under the photos depicting a rain-drenched-Georgetown, generally expressed apathy toward the state of the city following the downpour, as they acknowledged that being situated below sea level, Georgetown is prone to experience flooding. Guyana’s CARIFTA Games athletes were still high in spirits as they left a State House meeting with President David Granger yesterday. They were scheduled to attend the National Sports Awards, hosted by the National Sports Commission, at the Pegasus Hotel last evening. Today, the Lindeners will be escorted home, where they, along with their colleagues who will also accompany them, will be welcomed by the Mayor, the Regional Council and other well-wishers. Hail to the champs

Guyana’s CARIFTA Games athletes arrived in Guyana at just around 2 pm yesterday, where they were received by Director of Sport Christopher Jones and Athletics Association of Guyana President Aubrey Hutson, along with Department of Culture representatives, family, and well-wishers. The team arrived yesterday from Curacao after placing fifth at the CARIFTA Games, successfully copping four gold medals, one silver medal and three bronze medals. The National Sports Commission and the Athletics Association of Guyana had promised the athletes a hero’s welcome.
