DCC, Everest, Police notch up wins

Defending champions Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) and the Police Sports Club (PSC) notched up wins during Sunday’s round of matches in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), New Building Society (NBS) 40-over second division tournament.

GDF, GYO record wins 

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) yesterday recorded wins in the latest round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), New Building Society (NBS) 40-over second division tournament.

`I’m going for double gold’

Reigning Caribbean Under – 21 men’s Table Tennis Champion, Shemar Britton, is aiming for a repeat performance at the upcoming 61st  edition of the senior Caribbean Championships which gets underway at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), Georgetown in March.   Britton and Chelsea Edghill in 2018, created quite a stir after the duo stomped their way to the Under – 21 male and female titles in Jamaica.  The left-handed Britton defeated the highly touted Barbadian Tyrese Knight 3-2 to claim the title.

Griffith endorses Chanderpaul’s appointment

Following yesterday’s announcement by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) that Shivnarine Chanderpaul will join the Guyana Jaguars as the assistant head coach to Rayon Griffith, the latter has described the move as “ideal.”

Guyana Jaguars opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul has defended his stone-wall batting approach amid the criticisms and calls for him up the ante.    Chanderpaul, after four rounds of the ongoing WICB Professional Cricket League Regional four-day tournament, is currently among the leading run-getters.    He sits fourth on the list with a tally of 300 runs behind Kirk Edwards (344), Anthony Bramble (327) and Montcin Hodge (327).

West Indies all-rounder Keemo Paul has staked a strong claim to force his way into the Caribbean’s side final XI for the test match against England later this month following his excellent returns with the ball in his recent Regional first-class outing.

Van Lange hails Christophe 

Guyana’s emerging table tennis maestro Jonatan Van Lange has hailed the contributions of coach, Sydney Christophe, on his return home from his recent debut table tennis tour of the United States.   Van Lange, a 2018 Caribbean junior boys doubles silver medallist which he captured during his partnership with Kaysan Ninvalle, excelled throughout his recent stint abroad, clinching two titles at the Westchester Table Tennis Tournament to conclude his tour.   Before that, the Titans Table Tennis Club player, served his way to championship honours at the Joola Teams and the AACCT tournaments, for which he acknowledged Christophe’s assistance.

U19 hockey team crushes Shape in opening win 

The national U19 hockey team began their tour of Trinidad and Tobago with a solid effort by hammering Shape 9-0 in their opening match of the 16th Ventures Invitational Indoor tournament Friday evening.   The match, which was played at the renowned University of the West Indies (UWI) Sports & Physical Education Centre (SPEC) indoor facility, saw six of the Guyanese scoring.   The win mirrored a sound offensive showing, which saw Warren Williams, Meshach Sargeant and Nandalall Persaud netting twice for the Guyanese.

GCA to hold AGM/elections later this month 

The democratic process of electing officials to continue the command of cricket administration in the city will take the spotlight on January 29 when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) holds its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election of office bearers.

GVF to stage beach volleyball tournament 

The newly-installed Levi Nedd-led Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) is set to swing into action on Sunday as they host the federation’s inaugural Diamond Mineral Water male and female Beach Volleyball Tournament at the Marriott Beach Front.   Action will serve off from 8:00hrs with in excess of 20 teams from Demerara, Berbice and Essequibo set to vie for top honours in the knock-out tournament.   The top two teams will receive trophies and other prizes.
