Dick sees silver lining after Guyana’s showing at Junior C’bean c/ships 

Coach of Guyana’s Junior National Table Tennis players Dwain Dick, is not at all peeved about Guyana’s showing at the just concluded Caribbean Mini and Pre Cadet Table Tennis Championships which was hosted in the Dominican Republic.   The Guyanese athletes walked away with three bronze medals.   Dick, in his assessment of Guyana’s showing, told Stabroek Sport that the juniors held their own against some of the region’s top players but called on the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) to continue making strides to expose the juniors and to discover new talents.

Young batting sensation Guyana’s Mavendra Dindyal is certainly a future star and has been hailed as one of the bright performers by Steve Liburd, West Indies Under 15 Coach and CWI School’s Cricket Development Officer following the conclusion of the West Indies Under 15 Future Stars summer tour of England last weekend. 

All eyes, as well as the cameras, will be on the burly Rahkeem Cornwall who will be making his debut today for the West Indies against traditional foes India.

Senior CASA: Chin lone male Guyanese remaining in the draw

Guyana’s Richard Chin is the lone local male player remaining in the draw while Nicolette Fernandes, Larissa Wiltshire, Mary Fung – A – Fat and Taylor Fernandes have all booked quarter-final places in the female singles category of the ongoing Senior Caribbean Singles and Doubles Championships (CASA) after day one action ended last evening at the Georgetown Club.

Moore backing his charges to pull off second `Three-Peat’

Guyana Under – 19 Coach Julian Moore is almost certain that the five-time defending champions in the one – day version of Cricket West Indies  regional U19 championships can record its sixth consecutive regional under – 19 one day title.   “By nature, I’m a confident person so I’ll be confident regardless, but to be honest we have a very good chance.   “We have experience and the talent… there were encouraging signs during the under – 19 Inter-County-tournament so we are very upbeat about the tournament and what’s to come,” Moore, who enjoyed success with the team in 2017 and 2018 said.

As Guyana’s squash team polishes off its preparations to contest the 2019 Caribbean Area Squash Association Junior championship in Trinidad and Tobago, coach Carl Ince has conceded that the current batch is just talented as any Guyana would have produced.

Van Lange mops up third GTTA junior title in 2019 

By Royston Alkins  Junior sensation Jonathan Van Lange of the Titans Table Tennis Club, mopped up his third junior national title for 2019 after he won the boys under – 13 title in the 2019 Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) National Mini and Pre-Cadet Championships at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).  Van Lange in March copped both the boys under – 15 and 18 titles at the GTTA’s junior nationals.

By Royston Alkins Fifteen- year old Abosaide Cadogan netted a brace last evening to spur Bingo GCC Spartans past their senior counterparts and defending champions GBTI GCC Tigers in the opening match of the 2019 Guyana Hockey Board (GHB), Noble House Seafoods goals galore handicap open indoor hockey tournament at the National Gymnasium.
