With the tabulation of the recounted ballots from the March 2nd general elections drawing to an end, by the end of yesterday the opposition People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) had a lead of 16,371 votes over the incumbent APNU+AFC coalition.
The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is 97 boxes closer to the completion of the National Recount however the body is no closer to a decision on how to respond to the various “irregularities” raised by the incumbent APNU+AFC.
Despite the ongoing recount by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) determining that it won Region Seven at the March 2 polls, the incumbent APNU+AFC coalition has refused to sign the certification as it claims that the voting district is one in which “massive voter fraud” was perpetrated.

After 10 days of counting the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has processed 479 of 2,339 ballot boxes, 58 of which were recounted yesterday but it is still awaiting word from the COVID-19 task force on increasing the number of workstations to meet its deadline.
The votes from another 48 ballot boxes were tallied yesterday when the national recount entered its fourth day, bringing the grand total for the process to 156 of the 2,339 boxes generated from the March 2 general and regional polls.
Forty-three ballot boxes from the March 2nd general elections were recounted yesterday, bringing the three-day tally to 108 of 2339 boxes and upping the pressure on GECOM to decide how to quicken the process that has been slowed by numerous queries from the incumbent APNU+AFC.
After two days, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has managed to completely recount the ballots cast in 65 of the 2339 polling stations which operated on March 2, 2020.
Following another series of meetings, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is expected to meet today to finally set a date for the start of a recount of the votes cast at the March 2 elections.
