Minister of Social Cohesion Dr. George Norton with the newly-appointed United States Ambassador to Guyana Sarah-Ann Lynch on Friday after a courtesy call by the new ambassador. Following their meeting, Norton stated that they spoke about the development of the arts in Guyana and the possibility of collaborating to have workshops hosted by artists from the United States with an emphasis on the marketing of art. Norton added that the ambassador express-ed her desire to work with the ministry and he noted that they may be looking to create policies to help artists to be better able to profit from their work. Delivering a blessing: Following the success of a similar enterprise in Trinidad, Indian businessman Nitin Mehra and his son Karan have have opened the Vivaanta Ayurvedic Spa and Hair Salon on Church Street in Georgetown. Speaking at the opening yesterday, Mehra noted that while the Salon will offer popular beauty treatments such as hair styling, the basic concept of the enterprise is Ayurveda which is an “ancient therapeutic science” originating in India, based on the use of natural products to relieve the physical manifestations of stress and strains. Some minibus operators, including from Route 40 (Kitty/Campbellville), staged a protest across the street from the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday to call for the removal of Traffic Court Magistrate Clive Nurse, who they accused of being unreasonable. They also objected to the Traffic Department’s use of CCTV footage against them. The operators said they need to be respected for the services they provide to the Guyanese public. Guyhoc garbage backup: Garbage that has backed up in a canal behind homes in the Guyhoc area. Residents stated that cleaning works in the canal started a few weeks ago and garbage began to flow along the trench, however, the flow is being blocked by bushes at a section of the canal aback the residents’ homes. Poor upkeep

Hire us: Movietowne Guyana yesterday began a two-day job fair, where persons seeking employment were given the opportunity to apply for positions in several areas, including Cinema Operations and Maintenance. There was a huge turnout of persons, the majority of whom were young people. A Movietowne spokesperson said the day saw over 1,000 persons attending and filling out applications. Interviews were also being conducted on the spot and some persons were also hired on the spot.
