Approval of trawler licences an ‘act of corruption’ – Jonas

Sod-turned for nine-storey US$15M Aiden-brand hotel

The sod was turned yesterday for the construction of a US$15 million Aiden Hotel, the country’s first franchise “boutique” hotel, which is expected to provide jobs for 150 local workers during the construction phase and no less than 50 others once operations begin.

Camps and shop removed from outskirts of Iwokrama forest

Several camps and a shop that were found to be operating on the fringes of the Iwokrama forest were removed during the past week as the Iwokrama International Centre for Rain Forest Conservation and Development has moved to step up monitoring and enforcement to guard against illegal mining incursions.
