11 touts arrested

Eleven persons working as touts in the city were on Thursday arrested by police for soliciting minibus passengers.

$60M budgeted for embassies in the UAE, Qatar

As the this year’s budget for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was approved on Tuesday, it was revealed that a total of $60 million has been allocated for the establishment of embassies in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

President commits to police reform

Exxon expects to return to pilot flaring by month end

Anticipating that it would be down to pilot level flaring by the end of this month as a faulty gas compressor has been repaired and has left Germany for Guyana, ExxonMobil yesterday said that it was frustrated and disappointed that it had to flare almost 13 billion cubic feet (cu ft) of associated gas since startup here.

$1.1B budgeted for local gov’t polls

A sum of approximately $1.1 billion has been set aside in the Guyana Elections Commission’s (GECOM) 2021 budget for local government elections although no provisions have been made for house-to-house registration, which is seen as a key prerequisite for the holding of future polls.

Tenders opened for GWI projects

Tenders were on Tuesday opened at the National Procurement and Tender Administra-tion Board for a number of water supply projects under the Guyana Water Inc in Regions Seven and Eight.
