Section of Pirara Bridge collapses

A 50-foot section on the southern end of the Pirara Bridge in the Rupununi has collapsed as a truck heading from Lethem was crossing last night.

Gov’t moves to speed up Vincentian relief

As continuing explosions and ash fall following the eruption of St Vincent’s La Soufrière volcano ratcheted up emergency responses, the Guyana government on Saturday signalled that it was working towards dispatching relief supplies within 48 hours.

President convenes meeting on St Vincent relief

President Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips and Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo this afternoon held an urgent meeting with members of the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) and the Private Sector to coordinate an emergency response to help  St Vincent and the Grenadines following yesterday’s volcanic eruption which has displaced thousands.
