Harbour Bridge to see less retractions while repairs underway

Several measures are being implemented at the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB) to enable maintenance work following damage to span nine, the Department of Public Information (DPI) said on Sunday.

Princes St sluice operations ‘under control,’ Deputy Mayor says

In the aftermath of the flooding that affected hundreds of residents on Sunday due to the failure of an operator to close a sluice gate at Princes Street, Deputy Mayor Alfred Mentore yesterday said the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) has the situation well in hand while adding that persons responsible would be reprimanded.

CANU in chase at Lusignan

Ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) were last night involved in a chase along the Lusignan Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara with a civilian motor vehicle, suspected to have contained illegal drugs.

COVAX vaccines arrive

The consignment of 24,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, obtained through COVAX mechanism arrived this morning at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, according to a release from the COVAX partners.

Anti-piracy patrols to be stepped up

The Government says it  is preparing to add additional patrols along this country’s western river spaces to combat piracy and other security threats and a meeting is being planned with local fisherfolk to discuss equipping their vessels with affordable satellite-tracking devices.
