Opposition motion for inquiry into Lusignan prison unrest defeated

The Opposition’s attempt to have a Commission of Inquiry (COI) established to investigate the September 19th, 2020 unrest at the Lusignan Prison during which two inmates lost their lives and several others were injured, was defeated on Thursday after the Government used its majority to vote against the motion.

Police raid nets three robbery suspects, motorcycles

Three robbery suspects were arrested and a quantity of marijuana along with two abandoned motorcycles were discovered after the police raided several properties in the Georgetown to Agricola district on Friday.

Oil platform suffers gas problem again

Days after she was arrested for allegedly attempting to traffic over 500 grammes of cocaine hidden in a box of snacks destined for New York, a 30-year-old mother of two was yesterday remanded to prison after she denied the charge.

Govt’s `free up the weed’ bill sent to select committee

A government bill that seeks to remove custodial sentences for the possession of  less than 30 grammes of cannabis was sent to a select committee of Parliament on Thursday while an opposition motion to introduce a separate bill setting the no-jail amount at 500 grammes was defeated.
