Essequibo farmers to be given aid with paddy bug infestation

Following  concerns raised by a number of rice farmers along the Essequibo Coast about severe paddy bug infestations, recently appointed Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha held a meeting yesterday with officials from the Guyana Rice Development Board and instructed that help be provided to the growers.

Disabled People’s Network to have their own building

Members of the Disabled People’s Network (DPN) of Region Five will finally have their own multipurpose building through a project undertaken by the Food for the Poor (FFP) organisation and are to establish a special needs school for the first time. 

No new COVID case recorded

After 113 persons were tested in the last 24 hours, Guyana recorded no new COVID-19 case according to the Ministry of Health’s daily dashboard update yesterday.

Indar slams delays in works to seal Mahaicony breaches

Recently appointed Minister within the Ministry of Public Works Deodat Indar has bemoaned delays in sealing breaches along the Mahaicony shoreline, which one of the contractors, BK International, claims is partly due to a defect in the design provided to it.

Edghill orders immediate steps to restore power to Matthews Ridge

Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill  has instructed the Hinterland Electrification Company Inc (HECI) to take immediate steps to restore power to Matthews Ridge  in the north west after he was told by regional officials that the community had had no electricity since March of this year.

Director of Sports’  contract terminated

Director of Sports Christopher Jones was today relieved of his position and sent on his annual leave but the APNU+AFC candidate says that once he receives the benefits that come with the termination of contract, he will have no difficulties with the termination but if not he would have to fight it Jones told Stabroek News that he received the letter earlier today and it was headed ‘Termination of Contract’ and “essentially sending me off on leave as of today August 10th to September 13th”.

Oil and gas, bridge over Corentyne on agenda

Bilateral co-operation between Georgetown and Paramaribo was over the weekend agreed when two recently-elected presidents – Guyana’s Irfaan Ali and Suriname’s Chandrika-persad Santokhi  – held discussions on oil and gas and a bridge across the Corentyne among other areas.
