Online learning out of reach for Jawalla’s students

Although many persons living in the indigenous community of Jawalla, in Region Seven, are slowly adapting to the restrictions that have been put in place by the Ministry of Public Health to slow the spread of COVID-19, some who need internet access for their education have been unable to properly attend their online classes due to lack of cellular service and poor Wi-Fi connectivity.

Forty-one persons were tested yesterday for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) – the highest daily figure – even as the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Representative to Guyana called again for the ramping up of testing in the country.

BA charter flight delayed at CJIA after bringing oil workers

The British Airways charter flight that on Tuesday brought in offshore oil and gas workers was delayed here for several hours because of the failure to pay the necessary Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) tax and was only allowed to leave after ExxonMobil gave an undertaking to pay the outstanding monies.

Guyana has moved up in the press freedom rankings for the third straight year, moving to 49th out of the 180 countries listed on 2020 World Press Freedom Index even as the Reporters without Borders (RSF) assessment has deemed the upcoming decade a “decisive” one for journalism.
