Granger says ‘numerous reports of irregularities’ show deliberate manipulation of electoral process

With the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) nearing the end of the recount of votes cast at the March 2nd polls, President David Granger yesterday said irregularities reported by the APNU+AFC pointed to a deliberate manipulation of the electoral process even as he reiterated that he would abide by the final declarations of the elections body.

Teachers’ union not supporting holding of exams due to COVID-19 threat

With the Education Minis-try preparing to move ahead with the holding of examinations for thousands of students across the country next month, the leadership of the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) yesterday said it would not be supporting the decision as it maintained that the school environment poses a “threat” to learners, teachers, and families due to inadequate coronavirus safety protocols.

Students can opt out of Grade Six exams

Chief Education Officer (CEO) Ingrid Trotman yesterday said that students who don’t want to sit the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) exams over the two-day course in July will not be forced to write the exam.

First flight with returning Guyanese due today

As the recount of the ballots cast at the March 2 polls nears its conclusion, the heads of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and the European Union diplomatic missions have stressed the need for all stakeholders to “uphold the integrity” of the process and “peacefully accept” the wishes of the Guyanese population.
