CARPHA urges regional cooperation in tobacco fight

While noting that a recent review by the World Health Organization (WHO) found that smoking is associated with increased severity of disease and death in hospitalised COVID-19 patients, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has urged regional states to work together to prevent and lessen the use of all forms of tobacco products and scale-up efforts to implement their commitments under the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.

Complete lockdown not being considered – Harmon

Chief Executive Officer of the National COVID-19 Task Force Joseph Harmon has announced that while an extension of the current emergency measures in place to stem the transmission of the virus is being considered, a complete lockdown of the country is not.

Recount to end by June 13

With one day left in the original timeline for the recount of votes from the March 2nd general elections, GECOM yesterday extended the deadline to June 13 and by majority decision agreed for  a maximum of three days after the receipt of a final report from the Chief Election Officer (CEO)  for the declaration of a result.

Cops cracking down breaches of COVID-19 restrictions

Police are cracking down on persons who are breaching the emergency directives put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including those not abiding by the national curfew and some businesses that are still operating although they have not been deemed essential services.

Observation reports at centre of GECOM battle

GECOM commissioners are wrangling over how much time should be spent considering controversial observation reports before making a final declaration of the results for the March 2nd general elections and Chairperson Claudette Singh will likely have to cast the deciding vote on the matter.
