PAHO calls for ramping up of COVID-19 tests here

Forty-one persons were tested yesterday for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) – the highest daily figure – even as the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Representative to Guyana called again for the ramping up of testing in the country.

BA charter flight delayed at CJIA after bringing oil workers

The British Airways charter flight that on Tuesday brought in offshore oil and gas workers was delayed here for several hours because of the failure to pay the necessary Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) tax and was only allowed to leave after ExxonMobil gave an undertaking to pay the outstanding monies.

Use of plasma to fight COVID-19 not yet approved by WHO

As the use of the drugs hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine as treatment for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has not been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO), local health authorities are in talks on using different methods in treating patients with the virus including the use of plasma.

COVID-19 cases rise to 78

De facto Minister of Public Health Volda Lawrence this afternoon said that the number of persons positive for COVID-19 has risen to 78 from yesterday’s 75.

Private sector calls for urgent COVID-19 relief

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) has written the National Coronavirus Task Force (NCTF) calling for urgent relief measures in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic including income tax relief for employees in vulnerable sectors and the removal of VAT on all food items.
