Gov’t still silent on standoff between bauxite company, union

The Guyana Bauxite and General Workers Union (GB&GWU) yesterday called on the Government to take a firm stand against the firing of nearly 290 workers by the Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc, (BCGI), the union In a decade-long rift between the union and the Russian-owned bauxite mining company, union president, Lincoln Lewis, yesterday called for an end to the situation.

E-Networks on Wednesday granted Minister of Finance Winston Jordan, a tour of its subsea station, even as questions remain unanswered regarding what laws governed the granting of the permit for the project and the National Telecommunications Agency (NATA) continues to dodge answering.

The Police say they are investigating a fatal accident which occurred yesterday at about 11.20 pm  on the Capoey Public Road, Essequibo Coast, in which a member of the Guyana Defence Force lost his life.

Hess not worried about oil deal renegotiation

Even as the company plugs most of its US$3 billion capital and exploratory expenditures into its Guyana operations, Stabroek Block partner Hess, yesterday brushed off concerns about a possible  renegotiation of the Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) that it has, along with ExxonMobil and CNOOC, with Guyana saying both government and opposition have signalled they will not renegotiate.

EPA ‘generally pleased’ with new Bosai tailings pond

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is generally pleased with the US$10,000 improvements which the Linden-based Bosai Minerals Group (Guyana) has effected to its once problematic tailings pond, says EPA Senior Environmental Officer, Collis Primo, although he said recommendations will be made on how the facility can be further improved.
