Guyana stands to lose US$55b in bad oil deal

Producing statistics and calculations to show that Guyana has an oil deal far below global standards and  will lose out on up to  US$55 Billion over the 40-year period of the licence for the Stabroek Block, international corruption watchdog Global Witness has written to ExxonMobil urging a  renegotiation.

PPP/C complains to GECOM about APNU+AFC calls to assemble outside polling stations

The Opposition People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) has officially complained to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) about calls by various leaders of the APNU+AFC on the campaign trail for their supporters to congregate at polling places after closing on March 2nd and “protect their ballot”  In a letter to the Chair, retired Justice Claudette Singh, the PPP/C said it was  “gravely disturbed” by APNU+AFC leaders urging their supporters to “assemble in large numbers at Polling places at the close of polls to protect their ballot.”

Gov’t still silent on standoff between bauxite company, union

The Guyana Bauxite and General Workers Union (GB&GWU) yesterday called on the Government to take a firm stand against the firing of nearly 290 workers by the Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc, (BCGI), the union In a decade-long rift between the union and the Russian-owned bauxite mining company, union president, Lincoln Lewis, yesterday called for an end to the situation.

Finance Minister given tour of E-Networks subsea station

E-Networks on Wednesday granted Minister of Finance Winston Jordan, a tour of its subsea station, even as questions remain unanswered regarding what laws governed the granting of the permit for the project and the National Telecommunications Agency (NATA) continues to dodge answering.

Soldier dies in Capoey traffic accident

The Police say they are investigating a fatal accident which occurred yesterday at about 11.20 pm  on the Capoey Public Road, Essequibo Coast, in which a member of the Guyana Defence Force lost his life.
