National Archives no longer bearing Walter Rodney’s name

The National Archives of Guyana, which in 2008 had been renamed the Walter Rodney Archives, are no longer carrying the name of the noted historian and political activist and the party he founded wants the situation to be explained and rectified.

Mabaruma residents to decide on fate of rubber trees

The fate of the famous rubber trees that line the Philbert Pierre Avenue roadway in Mabaruma, in Region One, are in the hands of the town’s residents, who will decide by way of a survey if the trees will be removed to facilitate the expansion of the road.

PM commissions $473M asphalt road in Lethem

The recently completed asphalt road known, as the Barrack Retreat Corridor, in Lethem, Region Nine, was officially commissioned by Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo during a brief ceremony held on Friday.

Armed robberies in Providence on police radar

The Guyana Police Force’s Regional Division 4B, which covers Eccles to Moblissa, yesterday officially launched its policing plan for the holiday season and Divisional Commander Kurleigh Simon said an increase in armed robberies in the Providence area is among trends of concern to law enforcers.

Albion white sugar plant to be set up by end of 2021

The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) yesterday said it has been informed that the plans for the turnaround of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) include the construction of a white sugar plant that is expected to be operable at Albion at the end of 2021.
