AFC, WPA hopeful of elections date soon

While maintaining that government has not breached the constitution, coalition members the Alliance for Change (AFC) and the Working People’s Alliance (WPA) yesterday voiced their hope that a date for elections will now be swiftly identified.

79 land leases distributed to Matthews Ridge residents

Seventy-nine residents of Matthews Ridge, in Region One, on Thursday received leases for their lands from Minister of State Dawn Hastings-Williams and Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission Trevor Benn, the Ministry of the Presidency (MoTP) has said.

PPP set to protest until elections date set

The opposition People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is calling on President David Granger to set a date for elections immediately and yesterday said its members are prepared to continue protesting until a date is named even as it has again ruled out returning to parliament to extend the life of the government.

Police warn against repeat of protest disorder

Apparently caught off guard by yesterday’s protests by the PPP inside and outside of the Pegasus Hotel against President David Granger and his government, the Guyana Police Force tonight said it will endeavour to prevent a recurrence.
