Accused in car mirrors theft case refused bail

A 30-year-old labourer who allegedly stole two car mirrors from a car parked in a police station compound was yesterday remanded to prison after he failed to give the court a fixed place of abode, which was required to secure bail.

Five persons were killed in a collision involving a police vehicle along the Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD) public road early yesterday morning and President David Granger has ordered a Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into the cause while pledging that steps will be taken to ensure the safe use of the roads by members of the security forces.

Troy suspends mining operations

Australian miner Troy Resources Inc yesterday announced a suspension of mining at its Karouni, Region Seven operations in the wake of an accident last week that resulted in the death of a geologist.

Shot guard believes miner mistook him for bandit

Security guard Rory Deegs, who was shot during the attempted robbery outside El Dorado Trading in Newtown, Kitty on Monday, says that he believes that the target of the attack, the now dead Deon Stoll, fired at him because he misidentified him as one of the robbers since he was dressed similarly at the time.

Shuman in talks with APNU

Liberty and Justice Party (LJP) presidential candidate Lenox Shuman has had discussions with APNU about a possible coalescing but says that no decision has yet been made as he is still to do a “a final analysis”.

Women deny trying to pay cop $4M bribe for release of murder suspects

Sharmila Inderjali and Maryanna Lionel, who are on trial for allegedly offering a policeman $4 million in cash to release the men accused in the murder of Number 70 Village carpenter Faiyaz Narinedatt, yesterday led their defence in unsworn testimony in which they claimed that the money was intended to be used as bail for the men.
