Four found ‘not unacceptable’ for GECOM appointment

President David Granger and Leader of the Opposition Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday met on finalising a list of six nominees for the post of Chairperson of the Guyana Elections Com-mission (GECOM) and they jointly announced that four candidates have been found “not unacceptable” for the appointment.

Jagdeo’s counsel requests Lowenfield begins preparing for elections

Adverting to the consequential orders made on July 12 by the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), Anil Nandlall, counsel for Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo has written Chief Election Officer Keith Lowenfield requesting that he immediately begin preparing for general elections on a date no later than September 18, 2019.

Granger, Jagdeo meeting today on GECOM Chair

President David Granger and Leader of the Opposition Bharrat Jagdeo are expected to meet at the Ministry of the Presidency today to discuss the appointment of a Chair-person for the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

New dorm for hinterland students launched at Liliendaal

A spanking new $186 million dormitory which can accommodate up to 120 tertiary students from the hinterland, was yesterday declared open by President David Granger, who said the construction of the facility is in keeping with a ten-point action plan for development of the interior.
