Forensic lab’s new DNA equipment makes death certificates a possibility for families of massacred Lindo Creek miners

With the installation of DNA testing equipment at the Guyana Forensic Science Laboratory (GFSL), relatives of the miners who were gruesomely murdered at Lindo Creek in 2008 may be one step closer to getting death certificates for the men.

Jagdeo not opposed to Granger suggesting names for GECOM Chairman

The PPP has rejected the government’s interpretation of the June 18 ruling by the CCJ that President David Granger can also nominate some of the six persons to be considered as GECOM Chairman but it said that in an effort to find consensus Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo is amenable to the President suggesting names for his consideration.

Private sector urges common ground on CCJ rulings

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) yesterday urged government and the opposition to find common ground as they both prepare submissions for the Caribbean Court of Justice and it reiterated that business activity here has dropped following the December 21st, 2018 no-confidence motion against government.

WPA warns against unilateral selection of new GECOM chair

Urging a consensus approach in choosing a new Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Chairman, the Working People’s Alliance (WPA) has signalled its approval of the president and opposition leader jointly compiling a list of six nominees or for each to separately nominate three persons from which the president would select one.
