Gafsons concrete blocks now Bureau of Standards certified

Gafsons Industries Limited’s concrete blocks are officially a certified product, after the company was presented with a certificate from the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS), upon successfully fulfilling the requirements of the Guyana Standard (GYS) Specification for load bearing masonry concrete units.

Gov’t, UN working to aid Venezuelan survivors of gender-based violence

The increasing influx of Venezuelan nationals into Guyana has prompted the Ministry of Social Protection (MoSP) via the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Policy Unit and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to partner in generating a referral pathway for the Venezuelan survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

With overwhelming support, Khemraj Ramjattan yesterday won the leadership of the Alliance For Change (AFC) and was also endorsed as the party’s choice to be the prime ministerial candidate for governing coalition at the next general elections.

Following disclosures by Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo of the transfer of millions in funds from the Department of Public Service to the children of Minister Simona Broomes, Director-General of the Ministry of the Presidency Joseph Harmon on Friday said the sums represented scholarship payments which they earned as part of their contracts with government.

Inquest slated for 2013 hit-and-run death

A Coroner’s Inquest is scheduled to begin this week to determine if anyone is responsible for the death of Ian Chaves, the 43-year-old Industry resident whose lifeless body was discovered on the Turkeyen Public Road six years ago after a suspected hit-and-run accident.
