The Ministry of Home Affairs – Ministerial Taskforce on Trafficking in Persons yesterday said  that on Friday  a total of twenty Mines and Environmental officers from the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission benefited from a one day anti- trafficking in persons’ session.

Men entitled to maintenance from former wives

In a landmark ruling yesterday, acting Chief Justice Roxane George SC said that men can now apply for matrimonial benefits on the dissolution of a marriage as she found their constitutional rights were breached by the Matri-monial Causes Act which only made provision for women to be maintained by their former spouses.

Scores of teachers from the Pomeroon River and the hinterland communities in Region Two have joined in the strike called by the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) for increases in  salaries through collective bargaining.

Striking teachers won’t be paid – ministries confirm

Upping the ante in the GTU strike which entered its second week, the ministries of education and local government and regional development today said that those teachers who have been absent without excuse  will not be paid and that this will be reflected in their March salaries.
