GPL hit by another major power failure

Yesterday at approximately 6.45 am, customers in Demerara and a section of West Coast Berbice experienced an interruption in electricity supply due to a fault on the L4 Transmission Line, which connects the company’s Garden of Eden Power Plant to its Sophia Substation.

Security guard, 60, charged with rape

Michael Adams called ‘Crocklie’, a 60-year-old security guard of Lot 28 Goedverwagting Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, was arrested on 2024-03-07 and charged yesterday with the offence of rape.

Driver, two farmers charged with simple larceny

Wazir Asgar, a 29-year-old driver; Ramdat Alfred, a 46-year-old farmer and Naresh Alfred, a 23-year-old farmer, all from Martyrs Ville, Mon Repos, ECD, were arrested on 2024-03-10 by a rank from the Beterverwagting Police Station and charged jointly yesterday  with the offence of simple larceny.

Probe into Arimu double murder still ongoing – police

The probe by police of the Arimu double murder and robbery that occurred on March 3 is still ongoing, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum stated yesterday Stabroek News had earlier reported that several persons had been contacted by the police and were being questioned.

Special education needs school for Region Two

A contract for the construction of special education needs school at Cotton Field in Region Two valued at $94,78,725 was signed yesterday between the Government of Guyana through the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) and Builder’s Engineering  & Architectural Constancy.
